| eHealthNT implementation is a joint initiative of the Australian Government's Department of Health and Ageing and the Northern Territory Government's Department of Health and Community Services |
About us
The Territory is collaborating with the Australian Government on the progressive implementation of eHealthNT initiatives across the Northern Territory.
During 2007, to reflect national and Territory program developments, and the ongoing commitment of the Department of Health and Community Services in developing e-health initiatives across the Territory, the program name was changed from HealthConnectNT to eHealthNT. Some key elements have been retained, such as the icon 'Kanga', as a project link for current participants from the old to new program name.

Shared Electronic Health Record
- Progressively implement the Shared Electronic Health Record across the Northern Territory.
- Engage and maximise the registration of NT residents receiving health services from participating health care providers.
- Expand the Shared Electronic Health Record coverage to include Nganampa Aboriginal Medical Service and remote Indigenous communities in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Homelands of Northern SA.
- Undertake a feasibility study to assess the inclusion of Aboriginal Medical Services in the East Kimberley region of WA.
- Implement the Shared Electronic Health Record into 3 major urban GP practices in Darwin.
Childhood Immunisation Web Portal

Health care providers can use their web service to easily access the immunisation register and obtain the current immunisation status for a client.
Partnership with the Top End Division of General Practice
The Department of Health and Community Services has partnered with the Top End Division of General Practice to implement the following projects.
Secure Electronic Messaging Service
- Progressively implement the Secure Electronic Messaging Service, including referral management services and diagnostic results reporting, targeting participation of 95% of provider sites in the Top End and Central Australia.
- Expand the Secure Electronic Messaging Service to include Aboriginal Medical Service providers in remote Indigenous communities around the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Homelands of Northern SA and Ngaanyatjarra Homelands in WA.
- Undertake a feasibility study to extend the Secure Electronic Messaging Service to the East Kimberley region in WA.
Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions
- Continue development of electronic transmission of prescriptions, decision support and advanced medication management for a major aged care service provider.
- Continue development of community provider prescribing.
