National E-Health Strategy

In early 2008, Australian Health Ministers, through the Australian Health Ministers' Advisory Council, commissioned Deloitte to develop a strategic framework and plan to guide national coordination and collaboration in E-Health. Australian Government's Department of Health and Ageing and the
Northern Territory Government's Department of Health and Community Services

Governance

The Australian and Territory Governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in June 2005, which outlines the framework for cooperation between the Commonwealth and the Territory for the implementation of eHealthNT projects in accordance with the National Implementation Strategy. The MOU aims to achieve national interoperability and consistency of health information through machine-interpretable data.

The eHealthNT Implementation Steering Committee

The eHealthNT Implementation Steering Committe is responsible for providing advice on policy and business issues associated with the implementation of eHealthNT projects in accordance with project objectives formalised in a Memorandum of Understanding between the Territory and the Commonwealth, and a national Implementation Strategy.

Role of the committee

The role of the eHealthNT Implementation Steering Committee is to:

  • Provide strategic direction, advice and guidance for the implementation of eHealthNT projects and decide on proposed changes in scope in accordance with national / NEHTA guidelines and standards as implementation progresses in the Northern Territory;
  • Facilitate alignment between the program scope with the aspirations of stakeholder groups;
  • With due reference to the aims and objectives of eHealthNT implementation in the Northern Territory:
  • Review the progress of implementation against its objectives
  • Review functional arrangements between Stakeholders
  • Ensure that governance arrangements are clear and that decision-making is transparent
  • Set policy advice for Implementation Management
  • Provide a reference group to Implementation Management in respect to, but not limited by the following:
  • National program developments;
  • Health service delivery and related matters impacted by Implementation;
  • Consumer engagement and participation;
  • Provider engagement and participation;
  • Health information privacy issues;
  • Implementation evaluation;
  • Marketing and promotion.

The eHealthNT Implementation Steering Committee is tasked with providing advice on policy and business issues associated with the implementation of eHealthNT projects in accordance with project objectives and the National Implementation Strategy.
