About the Shared Electronic Health Record
The Shared Electronic Health Record is a summary of your medical records that can be accessed by health professionals at the point of care.
With your consent, information is transmitted when you visit participating health care providers such as NT public hospitals, health centers or GPs. Information on the Shared Electronic Health Record can only be viewed and stored with your consent.
Participating in the Shared Electronic Health Records allows instant access to:
- records of your past treatments wherever you present for health care, including information about your medications, test results and diagnoses.
- critical information about your allergies, which is particularly important in emergency situations where that information can mean the difference between life and death.
This new service is particularly valuable for individuals who change GPs or who use multiple health services as it helps health care providers, including hospitals, GPs and health centres, to securely access your up-to-date medical information.
The Shared Electronic Health Record is a project of the Australian and Northern Territory Government's eHealthNT initiative to provide improved continuity of care for a highly mobile population.
