- Easy, fast and secure access to reliable and comprehensive information
- Essential systems necessary for providing patient-centric care in an environment involving multiple public/private providers
- Support that is essential to overcoming difficulties of distance and to improving health outcomes for a highly mobile population with high health needs.
Origins of eHealthNT
The beginnings of eHealthNT and its flagship service, My eHealth Record (MeHR), can be traced to 2002 and the development of a shared electronic health record in the Northern Territory as part of the Australian Government's HealthConnect trials. The Katherine Region was the first of two sites in Australia to go live with a shared electronic health record, the other being in Tasmania. From 1 July 2005 the trial ended and the shared electronic health record service commenced.
eHealthNT was launched in 2008 as the business unit in NT Department of Health with responsibility for operation of the shared electronic health record service and other eHealth solutions and services such the Secure Electronic Messaging Service (SEMS). SEMS provides an easy, fast and secure method of communicating clinical information between healthcare providers including NT public hospitals.
